GENESIS
Real film - modeled, not mimicked.
The difference.
Most film emulation tools imitate a visual outcome. Genesis models a process.
Light captured by your digital sensor is taken through the full journey of being
exposed to a film negative, developed in a lab, and printed.
The result is an image that doesn't just look like film. It behaves like film.
FILM STOCKS
Emulsion evolved.
42 negative and 13 print stocks - historic and current - each modeled from the original design intent. The emulsions that defined cinema, now inside your node tree.

FILM PROCESSES
Meaningful printer points.
PUSH/PULL
Photochemical contrast control.
Genesis Default
Pull - 1 stop
Sometimes a project wasn't shot for proper film ratios or a client wants something softer.
Easily match your stocks to your project by pulling for less contrast or pushing for more - just like in a lab.
BLEACH BYPASS
A film lab at your desk.
Base
Bleach Bypass
You can perform a bleach bypass on both the negative and the print - just like in real life.

FILM GRAIN
Grain you already love.
Grain is the most obvious "tell" in digital film looks - get it wrong and the whole image feels fake. Genesis's grain algorithm was obsessively modeled by Steve Yedlin, ASC to match the tonal distribution, shape, size, and rhythm of physical film grain. It's been used on films including Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Looper, Knives Out, and Wake Up, Dead Man.
HALATION
Honest halation.
Halation is most compelling when you feel it without seeing it - an intrinsic quality of the image, not an effect laid on top. Steve Yedlin's halation algorithm for Genesis beautifully models physical halation's subtle diffusion of high-exposure areas.
MEET THE TEAM
Dr. Mitch Bogdanowicz
2x Oscar-winning film chemist and color science legend
Dr. Mitch Bogdanowicz is a film chemist who spent 32 years working for Eastman Kodak. During that time he also consulted on set and in the lab for major motion pictures, and he also designed the Kodak Look Management System, Kodak's own film emulation software.
Since leaving Kodak in 2006, he's consulted for major post houses and top tier colorists, from making some of the very first Hollywood film emulation and DI LUTs to creating LUTs for movies like Joker and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out Trilogy, Looper & many more
Steve Yedlin is a world-renowned cinematographer both for his work on films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out, and Looper.
He has created custom tools and algorithms for everything from modeling film grain to achieving life-like saturation. Steve is one of a handful of film creatives in the world with equal mastery of both the art and science of image formation - at every stage from sensor to screen.
